Group Classes

At Black Hills K9, we offer a variety of group dog training classes. These classes are an effective, affordable and fun way to train your dog!

Black Hills K9 LLC offers three primary group classes: on leash obedience, off leash obedience, and puppy classes. We do offer a trick group class, trailing group class, and other specialized group training classes on an ad hoc basis when there is enough interest. Please let us know if you are looking for something outside of our three primary classes.

Group classes are held weekly and last for about an hour over a period of six weeks. These can be a great way to meet new people and to socialize your dog around other dogs. These classes can be very effective and empower you to continue working outside of the class with your dog.

Note: Pricing listed below does not include sales tax.

On-Leash Obedience Group Class

This is generally where many dogs and owners start!

In this class we teach on-leash skills such as:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Heel
  • Place

While our primary goal is to teach your dog these six basic commands, we also can address some other problems that owners may be dealing with. If you have problems with your dog such as pulling on the leash, jumping on people, barking, etc. we will teach you the skills and give you the knowledge to address these issues on your own. We will also talk about continued socialization and ways for you to strengthen your relationship with your dog through engagement.

Off Leash Obedience Group Class

We find that many owners want to return for more training following our on leash obedience class. This class is designed to pick up at the next stage – as a prerequisite, dogs must have completed our on leash obedience group class or another one of our equivalent courses.

During this group class we will review our on leash obedience and begin teaching the six commands of sit, down, stay, come, heel, and place while off leash. This class is aimed at owners who want off leash freedom with their dog to adventure and have the ability to communicate with their dog at greater range than while on leash.

If you require our assistance in selecting and purchasing a remote training collar (RTC), also known as an electronic collar (e-collar), please let us know. We have a thorough knowledge of models on the market and can make a recommendation based on our experience.

Puppy Group Class

This class is designed to provide the foundational behaviors for puppies six months and under to achieve their greatest potential.

In this class, we will discuss methods for socialization in new environments, teaching you skills to help your new puppy explore the world around it.

We can also address many of the initial common concerns of potty training, crate training, jumping, biting, etc., as well as set the foundation for good obedience through skills such as loose leash walking, sit, down, place, and stay.

Specialized Group Class

These classes do not occur on a regular basis; classes are held based on customer demand.

  • Dog Trick Group Class

  • Trailing Group Class

  • Scent Work Group Class
