Private Lessons
Black Hills K9 offers a variety of private lesson dog training programs to achieve your dog training goals.
Black Hills K9 LLC offers three private lesson programs: on leash obedience, off leash obedience, and behavior modification. These programs can be a great way to train your dog as long as you have the extra time to work with them outside of the allotted lesson. We will develop our training plan to help you achieve your goals while working alongside you once a week for six weeks.
Each week will begin with a review of the previous lesson, and we will then proceed to working on a new skill or command. With private lessons, you will be expected to work throughout the week with your dog to ensure it is accomplishing the goals from the training plan and that you are seeing the results you are looking for. The amount of work required each week depends on a lot of factors, but in the end is very rewarding and satisfying, because you will have built a stronger relationship with your dog through engagement.
During these lessons, we can also address any questions that you have or discuss any troubling or problematic behaviors while providing training advice to better handle these situations with your dog. We will also cover continued socialization for your dog in new environments.

On Leash Private Lessons
$900
In our on leash private lesson program, we will meet for an hour a week over a total of six weeks.
These lessons are designed to teach six basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, heel and place commands while on leash. The skills that we work on during these lessons will continue to be reinforced by you as you work with your dog throughout the week.
In these lessons we can also discuss problematic behaviors such as jumping, barking, and pulling on the leash to provide you with the skills to address these situations as well.
Our goal is to work with you to ensure that your dog will perform on leash obedience consistently and reliably every time. With that as the end goal, we will conduct these lessons in a variety of settings in order to teach you the skills needed to deal with the different environments you may find you and your dog in.
Black Hills K9 LLC offers free follow-up training for the life of the dog with our on leash private lesson program as outlined in our training agreement contract.
Off Leash Private Lessons
$1,100*
* Includes the cost of a remote training collar (RTC), also known as an electronic collar (e-collar)
In our off leash private lesson program, we will meet for an hour a week over a total of six weeks.
These lessons are designed to build upon the six basic commands taught during our on leash program: sit, down, stay, come, heel and place. We will teach you the skills to work these commands in an off leash setting for complete control of your dog. As with our on leash program, we can also discuss problematic behaviors and provide you the additional skills to address these situations.
Our goal is to ensure that you are comfortable and confident with your remote training collar so that you and your dog can have the freedom to explore the world without a leash – while still having total control and a means to communicate. As with our other programs we will be looking for your dog to perform these commands consistently and reliably while off leash every time.
We will conduct these lessons in a variety of settings in order to teach you the skills needed to deal with the different environments you may find you and your dog in.

Behavior Modification
$750 or $1,500
In addition to our other services, we offer programs that are specifically designed for dogs who need behavior modification training.
These programs are for owners with dogs that exhibit problematic behaviors. We will evaluate, diagnose and work with dogs experiencing various behavioral concerns such as aggression, biting, resource guarding, fear, anxiety and neurotic behaviors. Our educational background and experience give us the confidence that we can help find a solution for you and your dog.
We will use behavior analysis to determine the best resolution – this program is customized to each dog.
The most important step in this program is to understand the cause of the behavior so that we can properly address it. If your dog is experiencing some of these problematic behaviors or you have been turned down by other dog trainers, feel free to give us a call to discuss the issues at hand. We are not able to diagnose a problem over the phone, but we will be happy to talk through which of our programs will best suit you and your dog’s needs to begin the process. A thorough evaluation will be conducted in your program.
These programs are customized to your specific dog and situation. We can determine which program is best for you after our initial consultation. Additional charges may apply to those dogs with severe shyness or aggression.
Program Details
In our behavior modification private lesson program, we will meet for an hour a week over a total of three or six weeks.
To begin with, these lessons will be held at our facility in order to control the environment. Eventually, the lessons will be conducted in a variety of settings. Owners will be taught the necessary skills to recognize the problematic behavior and work through it with your dog. This is what makes this process successful in the long term. Behavior modification training can be extremely reliable and life changing for you and your dog through consistency in training.
